Validation Cases

Every measurement tool we ship is checked against an answer we did not produce — a published benchmark or an independent reference solution. Each study below records the problem, the settings used, and the full comparison, including where the agreement is weakest.

Spatial resolution against subset size, with PDDIC plotted against the published DIC Challenge 2.0 results
Validation Case Study PD Digital Image Correlation

DIC Challenge 2.0: a validation study using the star image sets of Reu et al., Experimental Mechanics (2021)

The published reference test for how accurately a 2D digital image correlation code resolves rapidly varying displacement and strain. PDDIC matches the exact theoretical spatial resolution for its class of code and places inside the band of results reported for the codes that took part.

Reconstructed strain fields, the finite element reference and the absolute error for a plate with a circular cutout
Validation Case Study PD Field Recovery

Square plate with a central cutout

Strain and displacement fields reconstructed from 42 to 82 sparse strain sensors, and the elastic constants identified from them by the virtual fields method, each set against an independent finite element solution. Three cutouts are covered: a circular hole, an inclined elliptical hole and a slit.
